Trout Report
Are you waiting for the lakes to thaw? Not sure you want to play bumper boats on the river? Try trout fishing, you don’t even need a boat.
Minnesota has over 720 miles of designated trout streams. Many of them are stocked just before trout opener giving anglers of all skill levels a good shot at catching these feisty cold-water fish.
You don’t necessarily need a fly rod. A light action spinning rod works just fine. I like 6lb braid on mine. It’s much easier to get your lures back when fishing around trees and down timber.
I’ve seen people using crawlers and bobbers, but I’ve had the best of luck using little trout spinners like Panther Martins and Mepps.
Fishing had been good just after our recent snow storm, but now that it’s all melting the river is up and dirty. Fishing today was tough. Only caught a few trees and logs. They were all released safely for other anglers.
